CONDITIONS OF JOINING FIATA - INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION OF FORWARDING ASSOCIATIONS

FIATA - is an important world non - government transport organization. As agents between cargo owners and carriers, and cargo owners representatives forwarding agents organize delivery of their cargo.

The role of forwarding agents (also known as "architects of transportation") is growing in organizing both international and intermodal transportation.

They project organize and control streams of goods during their intermediate reloading and storing by several kinds of transport, and also during processing customs papers at the border, as well as project organize and control reciprocal financial flows. The forwarding sprang up simultaneously with development of trade and transport relations, and now has formed into an independent professional sphere, including about 40000 forwarding firms with 8-10 million employees, working in 150 countries.

In most of those countries in order to protect their interests forwarding agents established national trade unions, and in 1926 in Vienna, national forwarding associations of 16 European countries established FIATA - International Federation of Forwarding Associations.

Now FIATA (from the French - Federation Internationale des associations de Fransiti taires et assimiles) is the largest in the world influential professional transport non - government organization which unites 93 national associations from 85 countries and about 2700 individual members from 140 countries. FIATA membership

Forwarding enterprises or juridical persons closely related to forwarding are admitted to FIATA individually (FIATA regulations, article 4.4)

Individual membership of FIATA enables a forwarding enterprise with a number of the advantages, as follows:

  1. Company name, its postal address, phone/fax number, web site and e-mail address, as well as the director's name are published on FIATA member ship list, which is annually published and sent to every FIATA individual member. Putting a forwarding enterprise on FIATA membership list considerably improves its professional status and it gains a reputation of a reliable partner.
  2. Besides the above - mentioned regular information about himself, an individual member can place his advertisement on FIATA membership List.
  3. Individual members receive once in every two months a printed bulletin FIATA review (containing accounts of FIATA activities, FIATA congress programs, urgent (topical) articles on forwarding, etc.), information about exhibitions, conferences etc directly from FIATA.
  4. Acquiring FIATA publications, for instance such as FIATA Glossary of transport and forwarding terms, FIATA manual of customs clearance, etc individual members are entitled to big discounts.
  5. FIATA, when possible, renders services to its members' orders individually.
  6. Individual members receive official membership certificates.
  7. Individual members are entitled to use FIATA emblems (logotype) on their stationery, vehicles, firm forms (but not on transport papers)

Admission to or expulsion from FIATA of individual members is carried out by FIATA Presidium decision, which is final. In order to be admitted to FIATA, a forwarding enterprise has to present a recommendation of the national association of its country in writing (FIATA Regulations, article 4.4.1)

AMEU - Ukrainian association of FIATA

Association of International Forwarding Agents of Ukraine was established in 1994 on initiative of over 100 transport and forwarding enterprises of Ukraine with various forms of property in order to coordinate Ukrainian forwarding agents' efforts to solve problems of common interest in their professional activities. AMEU includes best international Ukrainian forwarding agents and protects the industry interests in the government, gives its member legal and informational support, organizes training by FIATA standards, authorizes its employees to work with FIATA papers, releases informational bulletin.

Since 1995 AMEU, as FIATA national association has been authorizes to recommend companies, wishing to join FIATA individually.

Recommendation decision is adopted by FIATA board of directors. In order to be recommended to FIATA, the applicant must be a member of AMEU, while his staff must have a certified specialist in the field of forwarding.

So as to be considered by AMEU board of directors the applicant presents :

  • Application to AMEU board of directors for recommendation to FIATA as an individual member. The application is made up in an arbitrary form, contains a commitment of keeping to FIATA Regulations Requirements, is signed by the director and stamped.
  • A copy of the state registration certificate of the applicant.
  • A certificate of the state of production and financial and economic activities of the enterprise over the past two years as an international forwarding agent (the form of the certificate is given by AMEU executive administration.
  • Two recommendations (plus an applicant should be applied for by the same people who gave him recommendations) of AMEU board of directors members or directors of firms - individual members of FIATA or AMEU honorary members.

  • A copy of FIATA diploma for forwarding.
  • Statement, verifying that AMEU board of directors and executive administration representatives acquainted themselves whit the conditions and level of the applicant's performance as forwarding agent.

AMEU executive administration specialists advice its employees how to prepare documents.

AMEU board of directors considers the applicant's documents in his presence at a regular Conference and makes an appropriate decision.

AMEU executive administration gives the applicant a standard application form, and after it is filled out and stamped by him , confirms its recommendation by stamping the form.

The application form filled out and stamped by the applicant is sent to FIATA, which after receiving it presents the bill to be paid by the applicant in Swiss franks: a 50 franks - entry fee, a 250 franks annual membership fee.

Having received the payment, FIATA sends the applicant a letter and a copy of the letter to AMEU. The letter contains the information on what the applicant should do as to be admitted to FIATA as an individual member. Enclosed to the letter are a membership certificate for current year, FIATA regulations, booklets, code of FIATA abbreviations, FIATA Glossary of forwarding and transport terms , and other necessary documents .

AMEU renders a service to its members in the form of a centralized payment of individual FIATA members' annual currency fees followed by compensation in grivnyas by NBU currency exchange rate.

Cessation of individual membership of FIATA is carried out by FIATA Presidium decision in case of violation of FIATA Regulations. Expulsion of an enterprise from the National Association (FIATA Regulations, article 4.6.3). In case of a company's withdrawal from AMEU the association withdraws its recommendation.
